This past summer the Spokane River went dry for over 1.5 miles for the second year in a row, while downtown flows continue to decrease. Join us for a happy hour where Jule Schultz will present on what we’ve learned about river.

Doors open: 4:30 PM

Presentation starts: 5:00 PM

Spoiler alert: We don’t know why the river went dry and this presentation may bring up more questions than it answers. But we’ve spent quite of a bit of time speaking with local hydrologists and helping Spokane Community College measure flows in and near the dry reach. During this time we learned the fascinating story of how the river and aquifer interact, what has changed in the system over time, how local environmental changes like temperature change river flow, and where the river is losing the most water.

But this won’t simply be a story of the dry river. The Spokane River’s flows are dropping each year here in Spokane as well, where the aquifer provides cool, clear water when we need it most-during the summer months.

Grab a beverage and join us for our second “Science on Tap”.
