RE: Support for City of Spokane FY 2019 Applications

Dear Mr. Simmons:

The Spokane Riverkeeper is an advocate for clean water and for a healthy Spokane River.

We would like to support the City of Spokane in its ongoing work to mitigate stormwater from the Cochran Basin, conduct work on the Post Street Bridge sewer line replacement, conduct Peaceful Valley stormwater improvements, and to undertake the TJ Meenach sewer siphon replacement. These projects will all result in positive outcomes for our river. The discharges from the stormwater and CSO systems are the source of many millions of gallons of effluent that enter the Spokane River each year. This effluent carries nutrients, heavy metals, hydro-carbons, and toxins to our river.

The Spokane Riverkeeper is happy to offer support for your proposal as the proposed upgrade work represents a win for the community, for the City of Spokane, and for all who value a clean river. The work that is taking place will aid in meeting commitments to the Spokane River Dissolved Oxygen TMDL as well as help the city meet the terms of current discharge permits.
We hope that you receive the funding and grants requested, and please let us know if there are other ways in which we might assist in the city’s effort to get to a cleaner river.

Respectfully,

Jerry White Jr.
